Well Then

This blog is basically characterised by not posting for a extended amount of time, then apologising for this, writing everything that has happened in the mean time, then repeating the process. I got one of those Twitter things to try and aid this, but due to my shit phone it’s not going too well. Currently I’m hunting around on Gumtree to see if anyone received an unwanted iPhone for Christmas, which is very unlikely. I’ve noticed that it makes a big difference if you search in Guildford rather than Portsmouth – Guildford consists of well educated upper-middle classes with adverts such as “Stunning iPhone 3G in white for sale due to contract running out, well looked after and in immaculate condition’ where as one from Portsmouth reads “lg optimus, mint condition. only bought yesterday, locked to orange”. Only bought yesterday! I.e only robbed yesterday, quick sale needed. Fucking idiot.

Where have I been the past 2 weeks? End of term was the 17th, had two tedious shit assignments due in on this date. Nothing creative, just 10,000 words of dribble so when I got them finished it felt like the world had been lifted off of my shoulders. It was my 20th on Sunday the 19th, so needless to say the weekend had to be smashed. My dad had kindly sent a load of beers to my house via Tesco home delivery on Friday night as a birthday present, which went down nicely. Bare in mind that this was the weekend where “the worst blizzard to ever hit Englind since the ice age” was predicted, so many people shat themselves and left Bournemouth on Friday to avoid getting stuck there, leaving only the people with bollocks to go out on the last Friday night of term. Dazed and confused we woke up sometime on Saturday, and to be fair, it had snowed a bit. The house was tidied, the car was packed and the heating was set to avoid freezing the pipes. After defrosting the car, and with no sat-nav or any idea of the state of the motorways, me and my mate Warren set off for North London to continue the celebrations. The slow and fast lanes of the M25 were unusable due to 4 inches of polluted slush, the road markings weren’t visible and it was pretty much every man for himself. Long story short, I didn’t write off the car, we didn’t break down even when 111,000 ticked over on the clock, we went the wrong way a few times and sat behind a broken down car for 20 minutes on the M1 which we thought was sitting in traffic, but we managed to get ourselves to Archway despite having the world against us. We cracked open another beer and couldn’t help but feel a small sense of accomplishment. That night we went to Cable for a Metaleadz night featuring ANDY ANDY ANDY and Goldie. It was sick but lacked the presence of any female vocals, but then again, that’s a given considering who was running the night. I prefer things a little more liquidy though, and was more impressed with Andy when he played down in Bounemouth at the end of his Nightlife 5 tour. Sunday we left London and headed for Herne Bay to take Warren home for the holidays and to collect his speakers (my housemates ain’t sleeping next year). The journey was disrupted not soon after leaving – how can they just close the Dartford Tunnel?! Stopping off at a McDonalds carpark to use their free Wi-Fi, we found another route over the Thames, and a couple of hours later we arrived in Kent. Not alot happened here, but I was introduced to the pleasure of having bubble and squeak in a fry-up, courtesy of “Mr Beano”. It was pretty good to be honest.

That was my Birthday weekend, I’m not going to explain the rest of the holidays but as you can imagine I’ve eaten some turkey and drank a beer. Student finance gave me a lovely bursary of £320, which I used to make up the rest of the money for my 550D, which is so sick. Photos & videos as and when.

If you’re bored of sitting at home, and your Christmas Spirit is fading, here’s some skateboarding:

Imagining the last quote in this story is making me crease:

This is a …(I really don’t want to use the word nifty)… example of distortion caused by the rolling shutter in the iPhone:

This film looks like it might be worth a watch:

“I’m Eating Fucking Falafel!”

Last Friday I headed up to London for the L.E.D Festival to see the likes of Pro Green, Aphex Twin, Annie Mac, David Guetta, Soulwax, Calvin Harris, Leftfield, Goldfrapp etc etc. Personal highlights for me were Sub Focus and Shy FX who dropped some absolute bangers, and my mate hit the nail on the head when comparing David Guetta’s set to Avatar “Sick effects but a naff storyline”. He had some ridiculous lazer, firework and smoke show but the music was something you’d here on a Tuesday night down in Bournemouth. Sunday night we were understandably feeling a bit worse for wear but decided last minute that it would be worth going to Vauxhall to see Hazard, Taxman, Heist, Dirtyphonics, Friction, Original Sin and others who were all playing at Innovation @ Fire. It was a sick night but attracted a bit of a dirty crowd which was evident when I got robbed on the dance floor of my camera by some fucking scum. So livid, all the irreplaceable jokes photos and videos from the weekend, gone. Notting Hill Carnival was definitely off the cards on Monday with the way we were feeling so we proceeded to gorge ourselves on a couple of hot BBQ Chickens from Tesco and head back down the A3 towards normal life. Since all the content I was gonna post has now been sold to someone for fifty quid, here’s Nike SB in Berlin:

Dobbo, Smither, Coatman & everyone else also headed into central London last week to bear witness to the new Emerica video, ‘Stay Gold’, which was apparently on another level. All I can do though is listen & imagine.

Hold tight for the Skegness edit.

Summer Lovin’

To anyone that’s reading this from outside the UK, we’re currently in day 8 of this unprecedented heat wave and it’s looking like this August bank holiday is going to go down in history. Reading starts today for some and that hard dry cracking ground looks unforgiving for those who have bad backs, and the hose pipe ban is what’s gonna spark the riots this year I reckon. As for me, I’m off to London for the long weekend for this:

And Notting Hill Carnival. It’s gonna be a mad one, let’s hope it doesn’t all get called off due to the heat…

WMUT Trailer!

Here’s the trailer to my final major college project entitled “What Makes Us Tick”.

“A documentary about British skateboarding aimed at people who do not skateboard themselves, as to give them an insight into the somewhat alien subject”

Watch in high quality, turn it up and get hyped:

I thought that it would take me 10 minutes to get that online today after work, instead it has taken almost five hours due to QuickTime not doing what it’s supposed to, Squeeze deciding it doesn’t actually like any format of video anymore, and YouTube failing the upload for god knows what reason. So unfortunately I don’t have enough time to post up the other content that I had planned to tonight, and I’ve now got to work first thing tomorrow morning as well, stoked.
